The guiding scripture for the Faster than the Pastor, A Journey to the Cross, event #3 was profound and meaningful. Bigger than 4.7KM, more beautiful than the scripture written across the toe of our FTTPsocks, and applicable to the journey to the cross that we are all on.
Quicker than the Vicar, held at the parishes of St Michael's and St Mary's on Saturday Nov 12th. Blessed with an incredibly charming day in the endearing city of Stillwater. Sunshine beaming on us, crisp, fresh autumn air carrying the sound of music for blocks and the Holy Spirit cloaking our participants with a radiant warmth!
Some wise person said, "One can not typically plan the impact they are going to have and most often they are not even aware they are having it". That has been the case for Jake and I as we have journeyed alongside of many during the first 3 events in our 7 event series.
I am not sure why I continue to be moved by all that takes place during these events - how the Holy Spirit is present in big and beautiful ways, how individuals are touched and moved on their own personal journey, the smiles, the joy, the celebration in knowing that our initiative is doing more than the 3 primary tenants of community building, evangelization and health advocacy.
God is profound in his message to us.....as long as we are cued in, and listening.
"This is such a wonderful way to celebrate our faith in a lively way alongside of my family! Everyone should be here!" Quicker than the Vicar participant.
This is not a race. This is an event. An event meant to join the faithful, the searching, the fast, the slow, the young, the older, in a fresh and relevant way - proclaiming the Gospel in a unique, yet profound way.
As shared, there were many moments that I embraced on this early Saturday morning....
* Flo Harris stepping up to valiantly lead the National Anthem
* Steve Lyngdahl - beyond his running years, forced to ride HARD to stay in the front of the QUICK VICAR, Fr Paul Shovelain, St John the Baptist in New Brighton
* Jerry & Evan Buchman carrying the Christ Cross, lifting it high as cars passed
* Dominican Sisters joyfully presenting finishers medals to all participants
* The abundance of email messages and notes of "Thanks" that filled my soul and inspire me to keep stepping forward on this beautiful journey....
My cup runneth over with blessings and I took delight in the time alongside of each of you.
